A business plan consists of information that explains in brief terms the the history of the business firm; its goals and objectives; its owners and directors; its industry; its customers; its major competitors; its production plan (if applicable); its organization and management; its profitability and financial positon; 3 year-financial forecasts; the investment and capital required to undertake a project or projects being considered; and an executive summary of the above information. A business plan normally should be no more than 10 pages in length if its being prepared for a third party or for a financial institution. A strategic plan that is being devised for management use can be a long as it is necessary to scope the future strategy of the firm in detail.
